What are your favorite "must see places/things to do" at Rice? on Tue May 18, 2010 2:51 pm
For me, its:
Rhino's: Great pub food at reasonable prices. love their chicken fingers and chicken ceasar wraps and beer on tap.
The import store on Hwy 28...I always forget their name. Fascinating hard to find stuff from exotic places.
Elmhirsts resort: Nice restaurant that follows the current trend of "locavore-ism"...serving their own farmed beef, and wines from the Ontario region. Also, their horseback riding is a lot of fun with great views of the lake. We wanted to go for a floatplane ride around the lake, but the pilot stood us up, so cant really recommend that. Still noone is perfect, we go back for our wedding anniversary dinner every year.
A mid-summer swim by the sunken railroad tracks. The water is shallow there so so beautifully warm.
Also theres a great sandy spot about a 1/4 mile into the Otonabee where you can each your boat and go for a swim. Sandy beaches are such a treasure in Ontario.
Kawartha Downs: We muddled our way through learning the basics of horseracing there. Great family atmosphere and lots of places with plenty of elbow room to watch the evening races. They also periodically have amateur Go-Kart races to watch there.
Stuff we've wanted to do but havent:
Serpent Mounds
Peterborough Petes OHL hockey game in the fall.
Kawartha Downs Stock car race
